Street surveillance and privacy
There has been a large surge in crime across the world that has resulted in an increase of video surveillance in many cities. In areas that are highly populated there has been an increase in petty theft and burglaries as more and more people are finding themselves out of a job. Due to these reasons many are turning to video surveillance as they simply cannot keep up with the level of crimes that are being committed on a daily basis. Video cameras that have been installed on the street corners and in alleyways are picking up a higher lever of public drunkenness and parking violations than ever before.
Due to the fact that there has also been budget cuts in many parts of the world for the police force there are fewer police on the streets. What little police force there is must attend to the more serious crimes in the area. Therefore, the video cameras that have been installed in numerous cities are a small price to pay when one considers the benefits that they will reap. Police officers will be able to do their jobs more efficiently without having to attend to all of the minor infractions such as parking violations or jaywalking. While some might feel that having these cameras on every street corner may infringe on their personal privacy they will need to consider all of the benefits to having this kind of protection if a crime if committed against them.
